Well here is my day 4, and I still have no idea.
This one is puzzling.
This is a community blog for the participants of the Fall 2013 "Tat it and See" hosted by Sherry Pence. This event has concluded. It was a wonderful success with well over 100 participants around the globe. This blog will remain open indefinitely to allow participants to continue to post progress on this pattern. I am considering making this a yearly event so keep checking back!

Day 4
Thank you Sherry for clearing up the cupped or flat effect. I am glad that my sea monster's hat was not too cupped. A bit of pulling and some blocking and everything should be as flat as can be. This is really fun! Adrian asks if we added a trunk or a tentacle, so my guess may not be so far off. But looking at this picture it could be a pipe. OK I don't have a clue, but that's what makes this sooooo much fun.

Day 3 - Catching Up
I did this a couple of days ago and forgot to post. It wasn't lying quite flat, but tugging a little on the picots a little helped a lot. Good news, I only had to pick out a few of the extra stitches left over from my goof on Day 2.
Oooh, I Know!
Sherry said it should be flat, so I pulled my outer chains a bit to flatten it. I may need to block it when it's done, or maybe once I know what it is, I'll make it again with shorter picots.
What am I saying? I already know what it is! It's obviously a gourd, perfect for fall!

Day 4
Moving right along with day 4's installment. I'm really bad at guessing games so I will leave that little detail to all you clever minded folks.

from Sarah in CT, USA
I was so excited this game had begun
I neglected to photograph day # one
But I learned something new...
To measure my picots, which I never do.
On that very first day
I learned to make picots in a new way.
I have day two
to show to you.
And day number three
as you can see.
I’m making progress
but I don’t have a guess.
I’ll wait for day four
and tat some more.
Cupped or Flat????
I really don't want to interfere too much, but I thought I would step in and answer this question. Should your motif be cupped or flat? The answer is flat. There are two reasons your motif would cup, one is that the picots are not the correct length (they should measure 1/4"), if the picots are too long you will get a 3D effect, the other reason is tension is too tight on the outer chains.
Day 3
Finally had time to tat day 3! Am glad that Sherry did not post day 4 yet, it gives me time to try and figure this thing out! It is not a sea monster, as I had thought, and my piece is cupped, like some of you, so it is a hat for a sea monster?

Day 3
Day 3 - Grace in Singapore
My piece also cupped - I suppose that's part of the design! I reckon it looks like a hat for a flower fairy. But since I do not have a flower fairy handy, I put it on a tiny teddy bear:
I am using Lizbeth Caribbean, Size 20.
Margaret's Day three
Hi,
This is my day three, at last the sun was out long enough for me to take a better picture would you believe this is the same spot as the last two. I was so pleased to read that someone elses cupped I thought it was me, I am using Lizbeth thread Purple Splendor no 20. I think this might be a lid for a box?

Hello from sunny South Carolina! At least - today is sunny and pleasant! Hopefully it will be for a few days. I got a late start on Sherry's TIAS, but I'm all caught up through Day 3 and looking forward to Day 4! I'm using Lizbeth Summer Fun in size 20. It will be interesting to see what we're all tatting!

Day Three
Check out my day 3 TIAS. It looks like a pretty flower right now, but I'm guessing it will morph into something else on day 4. Can't wait for the next installment!

Day 2 & 3
Snoopy's paw has become a pinwheel flower.
Its Saturday noon here in this part of the world.
Have a great weekend!
Day 3 from Frances in Australia
Day 3 is complete.
Mine also was bowl shaped so I retro tatted
and shortened the picots so that it lay flat.
Some of the picots were a little long.
I have no idea what it is yet.

Day 3
Well, I think I will have to concede, it's not an eye...
Although it still looks a little like it could be. :)
Maybe a bicycle wheel?
We'll see...
Also, thanks to Jane for that simple lock join explanation...I love learning new techniques! :)

Day 3 - Becky Dempsey
Here is my floral element as of Day 3...
Still thinking it could be the center of a tiara.

Day 3
Here's my Day 3 photo. I just started tatting a couple months ago, and I'm loving this TIAS. I have no idea what it's going to be, but it's already pretty. I'm using Lizbeth size 20 in Ocean Turquois Dk. It's also my first time using a picot gauge, which I cut out from some card stock. So far the only tricky part has been the lock join which was a bit loose at first. Thank you so much for doing this!
TIAS DAY 3
Day Three
Here's my day three, it's looking interesting, but still no idea what it might end up as.
Roll on Day Four. :)
TIAS Day 2 and Day 3
Wow, what a week! My picots without my gauge were even but not exactly the size I needed. I am forging ahead anyway in hopes that they won't be too noticeable.
Day 2 went well.
Day 3 involved learning how to make a lock join (thanks for the link). Here we are so far.
Still have no idea what we are making!

Day 3: Flat or Cupped?
Here's my day 3.
It looks like I still made my picots a little too long, even after I changed the orientation of the gauge. Unless it's supposed to be cupped, of course.
At this point, it still looks like a flower, but it won't for long. The next section will not be symmetrical, since there are joining picots on only the last three chains of this round. As to what it is, I still have no idea.

Done and dusted
Day 3 caught me just as I sat down to enjoy my Thursday gin and tonic. Hang on, it's Friday!!! DUH!!!!
My long picots look a bit squishy but it's not been pressed and I am a tight tatter. I used the gauge the right way so not sure what's going on. Still I count this as a test tat and will make a 'proper' one when I know what I'm making. I have changed my mind now and am convinced it's a 'you know what'!!!
