TIAS Day One - Linda H in MD

Previously Posted Image

Update:  Opening that split ring was really easy following tatmantats "Opening a Closed Tatted Ring" youtube video.  Now, the ds are tighter and look even but that yellow/orange color doesn't photograph well or maybe it's the photographer (me! - lol).

When I re-tatted the picot and 2 ds the picot twisted really bad.  To try to fix that problem I unpicked the 2 ds after the picot and the ds before the picot, dropped both shuttles letting them hang to get the twist out of the thread, re-tatted that section and thankfully, that newly tatted picot does not twist.  I assume a twisted picot can be fixed when blocking the piece but did not want to wait that long to find out. :o)

Here's a photo of my piece (on a different background) with the re-tatted split ring:

It is not perfect but I am so glad I took the time to correct the problem.  I am learning so much from tatting this mystery piece.  Any advice you can provide to help me improve the look of my tatting will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Will our next tatted moves be straight, curved or both?

Great work, ladies!!  I love your thread color choices and your tatted pieces.

Happy Tatting!

  1. Looks really god to me...! And because the piece is small, I really like the way the colors are separated. I wouldn't redo it it. Maybe the color makes it look just a tad bigger...

  2. Hi Barbara,

Thanks! In the photo, that yellow/orange color makes those stitches look a tad bigger but it looks fine in person so I won't change it. The angle may also have something to do with the look but I'm not going to worry about that either. The first time I tatted that split ring I tatted those yellow stitches looser because I was trying to make sure I didn't mess up that mock picot. Now, I know better.

Like others, I'm happy with my little tatted piece and looking forward to another tatting adventure with Day Two.

Thanks so much for commenting on my work! :o)
